Pop/R&B singer John West is making his headlining return to The Roxy this Wednesday!
John West is an LA staple. He began his career performing on the 3rd St. Promenade in Santa Monica where many singer/songwriters are discovered, but John was something special. His talent was recognized amongst many of the movers & shakers in the Southern California music scene and after multiple packed shows, West was signed by Island/Def Jam.
John West’s latest album moves his music into more of a hip hop sound. The first single “Already There” features rapper Big Sean and has even gained attention of label mate, Rihanna. Just a few days ago, John released his take on her hugely popular song “We Found Love”, as seen below:

Sold out madness! What a show. Girls were lined up from the crack of dawn. All the bands rocked us hard. Here is a few pictures from the show. If you have any please add them to our Flickr Group. Big Thanks to all the bands!!!
We always welcome VIMBY thru our doors to capture some great live footage of some of our favorite Roxy performers. Today, KATE VOEGELE is spotlighted – and its pretty fabulous. Check it out!
The first band in a long time, who sounded so great it actually made us drop what we were doing – and congregate to the DJ booth to watch the sound check. We loved ’em when they opened for OneRepublic last year. And we love ’em even more now. If you’re not hip to Northern yet – do yourself a favor and check out their tunes. Nothing quite like a great band, being captured perfectly! Photo credit to Northern friend, Jered Martin.
Our in house photog, Erik Voake, has done it again. Check out the first of many amazing shots of Demi Lovato’s first Roxy performance. Oh yeah as a little bonus we also threw in a Jonas bros pic from the show as well.
Today is going to be a busy day on this blog. You know it’s going to be nuts when you pull into work with 2 lines wrapped around the building…one for Nas one for Demi Lovato…pictures and updates to come! Oh, and if their ever was a time to find us on twitter, today would be the day! To be continued…..
Just wanted to put those little hearts and heads at ease – we DO indeed have two (REALLY GREAT AMAZING) shows next Friday July 18th. This isn’t a mistake or a typo. It’s an eclectic mix, and that’s why the Roxy rox. We can transform from Pop to Hip Hop seamlessly. So, to reiterate – Doors for Radio Disney Presents: DEMI LOVATO are at 7:00pm. Doors for Myspace Music Presents: NAS are at 10:30pm.
It was less than a year ago that the Jonas Brothers rocked our stage – and boy was it fun!!! Possibly best known for their stint as MTV’s first “Band in a Bubble” (They were challenged to write, record and produce a full length album in the 20 days while living inside the bubble, while fans were allowed to access 23 strategically placed web cameras 24/7) they’ve definitely managed so make their mark in the real world. With Cartel’s brand of pop/punk/rock – you can’t help but want to move. Come move with us…the strip will be rocking, rest assured. Tickets, HERE.
Two exciting things:
1) Tickets for PUSH PLAY are on sale now (click here). They’re pretty much the cutest things ever -I hear they’re gracing the cover of the ever popular Teen Beat and Pop mags, which means they’re well on their way to making their mark in the world. So make sure you catch this show before they explode! (Jonas Brothers flashback!)
And 2) One of our favorite contests ever, was the Tokio Hotel poster extravaganza – and now’s your chance to one-up those fans! The winner will receive a pair of tickets to the show…AND will get their poster printed and SIGNED by the band. Click here for all the details!
All the way from Liverpool, UK – we can’t wait to welcome The Wombats to the Strip. They have this great mix of classic british rock – with the ever hot indie scene which makes it doubly awesome. Come early and check out POP NOIR and THE YELLING (formerly Maryandi). Tickets here or 310 278 9457.
The month of Camp Freddy Mayhem has become this Rock N Roll machine that has been the talk of the town! It’s taken over like no one could have ever imagined. It started off great as we were so excited to be able to hold one of our Roxy contests to find the lucky openers – which allowed local bands to actually warm up the stage for Freddy. What a great opportunity. And now, we’ve had FIVE sold out shows – countless special guests – and killer set lists. Over the past 4 weeks, we’ve seen Tommy Lee, Terry Nunn, Chester of Linkin Park, Brandon Boyd of Incubus, Chino of the Deftones, Jerry Cantrell, Lemmy Kilmister, B-Real and Sen Dog, Tiffany, Metal Skool, Cory from Slipknot/Stone Sour, Tom Morrello as well as our house favorite Mark McGrath – to name a few! On top of the Sex Pistols Paul Cook, Glen Matlock and Steve Jones and GnR legends Duff and Slash! Insanity. We hate to rub it in, because the Freddy Finale tonight is of course sold out – but for the lucky, this show will take the cake! Every Thursday the chaos starts early – so make sure you stay tuned as Nic and I twitter the day away. We’ll keep you updated as always, on all the nitty gritty secrets. Thanks to all the guests and the guys – as well as the fans who have made the Roxy their nightlife staple for the month. We hope to see you all soon.
Last night’s show with Foxboro Hot Tubs was nothing short of amazing! Billie Joe has one of the most classic voices in punk rock history and it was such a treat to have him on our stage. We’de like to thank all the dedicated fans who braved the Sunset Strip for hours and hours yesterday.
We hope you all had a great, safe time and that you enjoyed your stay at The Roxy! Wow, the band played so many songs – and we loved them all! What was your favorite part?
From the laist:
“I’ve never seen so many people dancing on stage throughout a band’s set,” described LAist News Editor Andy Sternberg, who went to the Foxboro Hot Tubs’ show at the Roxy last night. “Billy Joe was loving it.”
From jcluvinidiot on the greendayauthority.com forum:
o goodness, ill start from the beginning….
The greatest adventure of my life began mon. the 26 of may, 2008, when my father and i battled memorial day traffic on a six and a half hour drive for the sunset strip.
Now that we have started our own Flickr group, The Roxy Theatre, anyone can add their photos taken at The Roxy or On The Rox to share with the world. So far we have received over 1500 photos from over 100 members. At the beginning of each month we will post our favorites in our “Shots From The Top” post. Keep shooting and post often, thanks to all who contributed.
