The Integr8ters Rock @TheRoxy

Meet Venues Today’s #1 in social media, yours truly, The Roxy.

Venues Today surveyed all the venues in the United States based on a few different factors and came up with the Social Media Power 100 Chart and we topped the list!

Nic Adler’s brand new marketing agency Adler Integrated is taking social to a whole new level. Read about our social media sit down with VT below:

The crew at The Roxy are doubling down on a social experiment that has kept them at the top of the pops since 2009. The 500-capacity club has amassed more followers and fans than any other amphitheater, arena or stadium in North America through a combination of fan engagement and content curation. The next obvious step would be managing social media for other venues, but doing Facebook en masse presents one obvious challenge — how does one scale a deeply personal experience like social media while maintaining brand credibility?

“It’s a very complicated thing,” said Nathan Levinson, the COO for the newly-created Adler Integrated, a marketing shop created by Roxy owner Nic Adler.

“You start to get to a point where you learn what can be automated and what can’t be,” he told the group of seven gathered on the top floor of the Ritz Carlton at L.A. Live for VT’s first Social Media Summit, part of the kick off for Venues Today’s Social Media Power 100 Chart.

How To Rock Social Media

@NicAdler recent sat down with Lydia Dishman of Fast Company for this piece “How To Rock Social Media: 5 Tips with Nic Adler, Owner of The Roxy”

Nic Adler’s blogged, tweeted, and Myspaced his way to keeping The Roxy, his 40-year-old music venue, fresh for its fans. As the social media landscape changes, here’s how he’s staying on top.

When you run a business that has played host to musical heavyweights like Nirvana and Bob Marley and launched cultural icons including The Rocky Horror Picture Show and The Pee-wee Herman Show, it would be pretty easy to get complacent. Not Nic Adler, owner of The Roxy Theatre. Growing up in the business and spending time in the trenches as a band manager gave Adler a unique perspective on delivering a musical experience.

And though he comes from a time when social media meant more than clickable thumbs on Facebook, he’s been an early adopter of all forms of online interactivity. From Myspace and a blog to Pinterest, Adler’s diligently embraced each new platform as a means of banishing the “velvet rope” and keeping the Sunset Strip’s illustrious denizen fresh and relevant to legions of fans both new and old.

For Adler, it’s less important to have a formal strategic approach to social media; it’s best to grow organically. Now he’s starting his own agency that’s focused on delivering the best execution across platforms to help businesses cultivate loyal followings, just like The Roxy.

Adler chatted with Fast Company about his own best practices.

A True Cultural Institution

The Shorty Awards are for the best in Twitter and social media. Now, unless you’ve been living under a rock or are a total newcomer (in which case, Hello!), you know The Roxy is huge on social media. We have the largest online community of any venue in the United States with over 130,000 fans on Facebook and over 50k followers on Twitter.

The Roxy Theatre has been bringing you the best artists in the biz since 1973. We have hosted acts that have influenced everyone since before the doors even opened. And when they finally did, it was with a run of Neil Young shows. Since then, just a small list of those who have graced our stage: Bob Marley, Bruce Springsteen, Guns N Roses, Jane’s Addiction, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Cheech & Chong, David Bowie, Steve Martin, Taj Mahal, Lou Reed, Prince, X, No Doubt, Social Distortion, Weezer, Dick Dale, Maroon 5, The Donnas, Courtney Love. You know, to name a few and not even mention the birthplace of the Rocky Horror Picture Show in the United States.

These reasons and many, many more are why you should take 2 minutes of your time an nominate The Roxy Theatre as a Cultural Institution in this year’s Shorty Awards.

To vote here’s all you need to do:

Tweet this “I nominate @TheRoxy for a Shorty Award in #culturalinstitution because…” and give a REAL reason. (This is important. No reason = no vote!)

Reasons may be current such as we bring you the latest in popular culture, music, movies, and entertainment across our various social media outlets. We are diverse in the music that comes through these doors as well as in the other events that happen here.

Please take the time to nominate us (responses can be short or long, no specific length is necessary) and show your love for The Roxy Theatre as a true cultural institution.

Tweetcrawl 2.0 All We Could Have Asked For And More

Tweet Crawl 2.0

Thanks to all of our lovely Sunset Strip neighbors, friends, local businesses and beyond, for making Tweetcrawl 2.0 (SSMF Edition) a HUGE success! From tickets, to hotel rooms – we hooked up some of our most loyal tweeps. Thanks to all who participated – first timers The Standard and Book Soup, and veterans The Comedy Store, The Andaz, The Viper Room, and us. Also, a BIG thank you to KTLA for the coverage!

First Ever Tweetcrawl An Official Success

It was a lovely Saturday night on the Sunset Strip, weather was perfect and I was ready to get my geek on. The mix of twitter + real life is a touchy subject. How do you you master the transition?? The Andaz was a perfect place to start the party – friendly faces, tasty drinks (everyone MUST try ‘The Plant’), and a great start to the mixer. Venturing next door to The Comedy Club, we were treated to an intimate tour of the club, some great stories (Jim Carrey used to answer the phones!) and some top notch stand-up. Once we had our comedy fill (never enough!) we trekked down to the Viper Room, saw some rock and roll, ate some BBQ, and headed to The Roxy! We had a hot show with Mateo, and even hotter drink specials for our tweeps ($3 vodka rebulls/ $5 your choice). Couldn’t have been happier with the turnout, met some great new people, gave away fancy prizes, and really embraced The Strip. Cannot wait for the next one!! Thanks to Charlie and The Andaz, Alf at The Comedy Store, Chelsea and Nate at The Viper, The 98.7 ladies, and our Roxy team. Stay tuned!!!
As expected, Twitter was a buzz with all sorts of #stripcrawl action!!
